If you have been following us, you know that we are all about balance. Well, This applies to the vacations we take through out the year as well. I love the snow and I love the sun, so I try to plan for my family to experience both. This winter we decided to take everyone to Park City. Playing in the snow is an incredible workout. Your body works harder to maintain a healthy body temperature in extreme climate conditions. If it’s very cold, you start shivering. Shivering is the result of your muscles moving to increase heat in your body. So even if you are just standing in the cold you are burning calories. Remember muscle burns more calories than fat, so the more muscle mass you have on your body, the more calories you will need and the more calories you will burn.

Key point! Don’t forget you still have to exercise good choices when it comes to fueling your body. Justification can be your biggest downfall. Just because you are burning more calories in the cold doesn’t give you a hall pass to spend your week eating fries, burgers and cookies. If you fuel your body correctly with whole nutritious foods, your body will run efficiently and you might find yourself sailing off a jump or attempting a black diamond run before you know it.

So if you are trying to figure out a family vacation this winter, consider the snow. You can ski, snowboard, ice-skate, snow shoe, and the list goes on. The best part about this is the quality time you get to spend with one another. We shared a lot of stories up the chair lift. I will admit it wasn’t all fun and games, occasional complaining, and whining went along with this trip. But, All and all, we made memories we will all have forever. Make one of your goals for 2016 to enjoy every moment. Whether it is observing the perfect snowflake, a sunset through the trees or helping your child get on their snow clothes.
